Founded in 2012, REAch2 Academy Trust is the largest primary-only academy trust in the country. As a growing charitable organisation, currently supporting 60 primary academies across England, we are seeking Non-Executive Representatives to join our newly established Cluster boards. As is the case with our Local Governors and Trustees, the position of Cluster Non-Executive Representative is a voluntary one.
We are a family that delivers school to school improvement, going the extra mile for all our children. We are passionate about dispelling the myth that only certain children are able to achieve. This Is an opportunity to join a transformational trust that has taken its schools from 17% to 83% Ofsted ‘Good’ Academies over the past six years.
The Cluster boards will meet up to six times per year in schools located in the clusters, details of the Clusters are set out below:
- Cluster 1 covering Cannock, Staffordshire, Telford and Wolverhampton areas
- Cluster 2 covering Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire and Litchfield areas
- Cluster 3 covering Rugby, Atherstone, Birmingham and Nuneaton areas
- Cluster 4 covering Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin, Harlow and Aylesbury areas
- Cluster 5 covering Lowestoft and Beccles areas
- Cluster 6 covering Essex, Clacton on Sea, Colchester and Ipswich areas
- Cluster 7 covering Croydon and West Sussex areas
- Cluster 8 covering Kent, Gravesend, Bexley Heath, Purfleet and Deptford areas
- Cluster 9 covering Reading areas
- Cluster 10 covering London - Waltham Forest, Chigwell, Dagenham, Leyton and Romford areas
Our Cornerstones and Touchstones
REAch2 is the Cornerstone of the entire Trust: providing a strong, responsible foundation from which every Academy develops and grows. A cornerstone provides a subtle yet paramount role in a building and ensures that REAch2 is trustworthy, reliable and inspirational organization, delivering the best possible learning experience.
What gives each REAch2 Academy its uniqueness is the “touchstones” of the Trust: seven principles, which make our Academies distinctive. Just as 500 years ago, touchstones were used to test the quality of the gold they marked, so too our touchstones are used to express values and ethos of the Trust. They describe what the Trust wants to be known for and how it wishes to operate.
What are Touchstones?
Children and adults will flourish in REAch2 academies: academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually so that all dimensions of humanity are nurtured.

Cluster Non-Executive Representative
About the Role
Cluster Non-Executive Representatives are responsible for Cluster wide opportunities and working collaboratively with all schools within the cluster. They are able to provide cluster overview, scrutiny and challenge of Academy education, financial performance and risk management. Cluster Non-Executive Representatives are responsible to support cluster contact and communications with Academy leaders and governors to shape and influence the Academy Trusts thinking and ensure an effective flow of communication takes place between the Local Governing Bodies (LGBs), the Cluster Boards and the Trust Board.
On each Cluster Board we are seeking to have at least one Non-Executive Representative with experience and expertise in the financial sector. Taking a leading role in financial compliance across the cluster these individuals will be experienced in ensuring sound financial systems are in place across the cluster. To monitor the financial performance of the academies against approved budgets within the cluster. To ensure financial risk is being adequately managed through the risk framework and cluster heat maps and to approve the Academies’ spend in line with the Trust’s Scheme of Financial Delegation.

Whilst it is desirable that successful candidates will have existing corporate or charity governance experience in an organisation of at least equivalent size and budget value, the trust’s priority is to secure non-executive representatives who are able to provide scrutiny and challenge to schools within the cluster. They will be comfortable working as part of a cluster board to ensure oversight takes place across all areas including risk, performance, financials and compliance.
Applicants can expect to attend six meetings per year, and additional visits to schools within the cluster to better understand the academies within the cluster.
Background on academy trusts
Academy schools, which are charities run independently of local authority control, now account for 74% of secondary schools and 31% of primaries – and their number is growing all the time.
Many of these schools are grouped together as multi-academy trusts (MATs). There are currently 832 multi academy trusts of 3+ schools. If the schools are to fulfil their potential, the trusts need non-executives (known in charity law as trustees) to bring a wide range of skills and experience to help guide strategy, ensure their ambitions can be soundly financed and keep their schools up to the mark delivering for their pupils.
